It has been another hot day but with a nice gentle breeze. The rains of last night died away leaving a fresh and clear morning. The boys (or as Steve likes to be called, the men) went straight into the office to start work and us girls as we like to call ourselves headed off to our houses to collect the children for playgroup. Stephanie and I were due to be in playgroup leaving Linda to sit with the babies but Linda came and joined us during the morning as the babies in the house were not needing too much attention.
Playgroup has changed considerably since last year and there is now a soft play room where the crawling children can crawl over soft cushions and play safely. This leaves much more room for the older children to play and run around. Steph stayed in the baby room and I stayed out with the older ones who sang to start with and then had fun with toys before their apple snack and then they went outside in the fresh air.
Having had my leg accident on the escalator in Jo'burg I continued in the same vein when i sat on a plastic chair in playgroup whilst holding a child who i was trying to dress with a clean pair of shorts, when the chair snapped in half (obviously my weight - not an old chair!!!). I managed to save the child but fell bang on my elbow on the tiled floor which hurt! I now have a blue elbow which is interesting but at least it means i cannot put my elbows on the table at mealtimes.
The Steves needed to get a cable and asked me to take them into town where I just happened to know of a computer shop from my last visit, so we had a little trip into town which was interesting as it was quite busy/. I drove down Kingsway to show Steve the market and the cathedral etc and the traffic was quite bad - I was quite adept at dodging taxis who just stopped in the middle of the road. The best moment was when a car in the right hand lane of 3 decided to turn left suddenly! He made it with no scratches.....
We had a light lunch after feeding the children theirs and then had our siesta! The 3 of us managed to find a spot with enough shade and sun to keep all 3 of us happy and we settled with our books but didnt actually do much reading! We had a lovely catch up with Benno and Wendy who were friends of mine from a previous visit and they helped the others process some of the stuff that they had seen/experienced during the morning - it had been quite a culture shock.
The afternoon was spent playing with the children and the Steves even left their computers to come and play football (well Dobbo didn't, he stayed near the roundabout).
We bathed and fed the little ones before going back to our house tired and grubby and very glad that we didnt have to cook dinner - we had planned to go for a curry with Bryan and Anita. We went to the 'Regal and had a lovely meal followed by dessert - or is that pudding(?) at Lancers Inn. We spent the evening with both serious conversation and a lot of laughter which increased greatly once we got to dessert. There was an elderly gentleman sat on the table next to us on his own and we were trying to guess why he was there - we wondered who stayed in Lesotho hotels. Eventually after apologising for the noise we were making I had to ask the question. It turned out that he was a French paleantologist who had come to south Africa back in the 70s when he was a student to study dinosaurs and had spent his holiday time in Lesotho so he was travelling back to revisit old haunts. We had an entertaining conversation with him before heading home tired and relaxed after a hard day.
Off to bed now, there is so much i could write but they boys think i am writing War and Peace! Apparently some people are having trouble commenting on my blog but if you just write anonymously you should be ok (so my technical advisors say).
Thank you for your prayers........and your messages. We are all well and happy and getting on well together although I have to say that I am learning a lot about my friends.....its amazing what you learn about people when you are aliens in a foreign land a long way from home. For example i always thought Stephanie was quiet!
