Day 1 at work

Phew...today has felt like a 48 hour day. I was over at playgroup at 8 having had a reasobable nights sleep but there was a lot of loud music playing till 3 from somewhere nearby.
I had a vague hope which i knew was unrealistic that playgroup would be as i had left it last year...how wrong i was. Having sat in the baby room for a while whilst the babies were being brought down,  I only had time to get some crayons and paper out today before i was surrounded by lots of children who all wanted to draw and colour. Playgroup children are all under 4 and there are about 24 of them plus up to 15 babies in a separate room. Having given most of the older ones a chance to draw and colour, i went back to the main room where we played withbricks  for a while before snack time...then a quick coffee break which enabled me to go and get all the cars i had been given to bring. The children were outdoors for the rest of the morning but they played with their new cars outside and got a lot of enjoyment from them.

Today was weight and height check day by the nurse so i was asked to take som3 children to be weighed. I took 2 boys whose names i had not quite got...in fact i had no idea of their names...i was reasonably confident as 8 undressed them that i could remember which was wearing which clothes until 7 more arrived and all stripped off.....i had ansolutely no chance and ended up dressing 2 girls and taking them back with me. Leaving th3 house mother with all the boys. The girls were wearing pink so that did make it a bit easier!!!!

Lunch time was messy , i was assigned a 1 year old who clearl6 did not fancy the plain papa that had been cooked for her. All she really wanted was a bottle of milk as we found out at tea time. Having fed 2 or 3 children i heRd the faint cry of a tiny baby and i went into the nedroom where the 1 week old teins were starting to wake up and need food. Another young baby woke up at the same time so chaos ensued for a while until i could get at least one fed by the bottle. Evenutually between me and the housemother, calm was resored.

Christian, Andrew and i all met for lunch under the gazebo outside our house snd were impressed that Christian had repaced most of the sinks. By the end of the day he only has 2 to go and held back on them because they are a tap short. He spent the day trying not to flood the bathrooms and did an excellent job.

I had a little snooze in the sun at lunch time while Christian went back to work and Andrew joined me in the sun to learn his words for his forthcoming Am Dram performance. At 3 PM we went back to play with the children taking with us a bubble machine full of bubbles. The children absolutely love the bubbles and went crazy until they ran out at which point I got the footballs out and discovered that they were mostly flat so had to go back to the house to find the ball pump I has brought with me. Of course all the children want their balls blown up whether they needed it or not so I exercised my muscles and then played football and catch until tea time was announced. The children all had home made cake and water before heading back to their houses for dinner, bath and bed. My house is quite lively with lots of older boys so i told them if they were good the could go to the library after dinner. They were angels so we took ourselves off to the library where i read many books before bedtime.

There was a big dinner all arranged tonight for us by Beautiful Gate so we all ate together under the gazebo and enjoyed chicken with corn and potato salad.  The evenings are still quite cool out here so i was glad of  my Jacket as i am my extra blankets now i am in bed.

Its been a tiring and busy day. The children are all fascinated by my boot and the older boys in my house are very protective of it, telling everyone exactly which bone is broken, that it hurt a lot and that i fell down in England. I just wish i could have thought of a really good story to tell them if how i did it.

Anyway my eyes are closing as i write. Time for me to sign off and sleep. The sun wakes me up at about 6by shining   through the gaps in the curtains.....
Sala hantle as they say here......stay well...until tomorrow ...
Love
Jenny x
