Sunday's blog (3rd Feb) posted Monday morning

Woke early to glorious sunshine but it felt a little chillier than yesterday so i resisted the early morning outdoor shower and felt sure i would have one a little later, which proved right.

 

I went to church with Sue and the girls and Sue’s mum. It was the first service of a new congregation in a local school. There were about 400 people there and apart from not knowing any of the hymns it was a good experience. I did fall asleep during the talk as it was very warm and sleep had not been overly plentiful over the past few days although once i am in bed I am sleeping deeply which is good.

After church we stopped off at the shop and i was relieved to be able to by some antiseptic cream and big plasters for my foot which has continued to be sore – probably because it is permanently full of sand – Fish Hoek is a sandy and windy place and indeed Ray’s garden is basically like a beach.  I bought us a treat of an apple crumble for dessert tonight too which was very lovely – along with some proper English custard!  

We had a quick light lunch and then took the girls, or did they take me?, to Simonstown and Boulders beach to see the penguins. This was by special request from me as i loved seeing them last year and couldn’t resist a return trip.  I was not disappointed, even saw some baby chicks which was very special.  After a drink stop (Guava juice) Teka and I attacked the maths homework and we spent a happy hour together doing some addition before we had roast chicken and rice and veggies for dinner.  After dinner we finished off doing some of her corrections and sadly she had lost the extra sheet so i guess that might be tomorrows job! 

Piles of washing up followed as there were 7 of us for dinner but having done that Ray and I sat down for a long chat about life, faith, religion and other theological matters (yes really) and i hoped against hope that the internet would reappear so i could write my blog. Sadly it didn’t so with the rest of the family now in bed and the cat curled up beside me i am writing this in draft so i can hopefully publish tomorrow morning.  It seems odd that tomorrow is Monday........  I am going supermarket shopping with Sue tomorrow and dropping Ray off at a meeting and then while he goes into work tomorrow and the girls go to their swimming lesson, i am going to prepare the evening meal of traditional English fare – roast beef, Yorkshire puds, leeks and parsnips – all pretty much unknown in this household so i hope they like it. I have promised a cheesecake too and am hoping to get on the internet to actually find my normal recipe!  Watch this space............

 

Whenever you read this, i hope it finds you well.  It has been a little cooler today – only about 25-26 degrees but fine and sunny weather is promised for the rest of the week too so hopefully plans to climb Lions Head early on Tuesday morning will fall into place.
